| Here are some of the thoughts I/we have had since moving to Carlisle:
THINGS WE LIKE:
* Grace Baptist Church.....experiential expository, soul nourishing preaching. I love it that Pastor Campbel uses the phrase "boys and girls" every sermon, bringing them to attention on a point he wants them to hear.
*The church people who are warm and welcoming. We've been invited over to their homes several times. Beegee Staub, our exuberant local and Civil War historical resource lady.(a doser at the Historical Society Museum)
*"Carmin" the Garmin who leads us to new places.
*Carlisle, a lovely old tree lined, and hanging baskets town, boasting many locally owned eating places, and a great Farmer's Market replete with many local vendors in a large area in a building downtown.
*Vickie Bookamer, Gordon's able secretary, and our friend.
*BB's......a huge Amish/Mennonite? store in Newburg...."Bents, Bumps & Bunch of Bargains". Sarah and Amanda(Dykstra's daughters) took me on a Tuesday am. WHAT an experience! *The rolling, to hilly to mountainous Pa countryside. Gorgeous vistas in some areas. *Being closer to my family. We were able to spent a little time with Dad the 4th and 5th of July.
*Our new, new house, all of it....central air when we need it....my new compact efficient kitchen....our two-door mailbox nobody has smashed.( which happened repeatedly in PB) ... garage door opener!
*Having the opportunity to meet so many wonderful Christian people.
THINGS WE MISS:
*Being near our Illinois children and grandchildren, and Gordon's kin.
*Trees around our house. Our Charlie Brown tree is dying.
*All the dear Sycamore family......Sunday potlucks.
*Our Dr Andersen, and yes, dentist, Dr Glade.
*Being able to order from the coop, and shop at Johnnies', Sam's ,etc. (though interestingly enough an elder owns a meat/deli store very close to Gordon's office)
*Our old house...my kitchen....two sinks....lots of cupboards.....built in buffet, Dad's bookshelf , the trees.
*PB Dollar Store.
*Gordon misses his burn pile  ....the "energy and stress of the pastorate".....counselling.....having an office with a view(as opposed to a brick wall:}
*Having my own car.
* My SS class, VBS
Moving has its stresses and frustrations, but praise the Lord He has given so many answers to prayers, and kind gifts in many forms, and we are happy for this great opportunity to serve Him. Please pray for Gordon's adjustment to this great work, and strength to keep up with the rigors of travel.

My wonderful Sunday School class
The Cono choir came to Sycamore Sunday afternoon,as the program stated
to "Honor our Lord Jesus Christ in the service of Gordon and Rayna
Sycamore Baptist Church and School." Max and Jean Belz, the very
able director's parents, came to the QC in '75 to begin a Christian
highschool, and we have had close ties with Cono every since. Thank
you Alicia Wilson whose idea this was, and thank you Andrew and choir
members. We thoroughly enjoyed the God honoring selections executed
with amazing precision. A tearful thank you, thankyou. God bless you all!

Two of our dear Wilson/Shackleford friends we were pleased to see at the cconcert. Aren't they lovely?

Sycamore sisters at the brunch/college pack Saturday morning
We really did pack Valentine's goodies for our college age students and servicemen, but took no pictures.
Also, last week, our very good neighbor, Larry died. We went to the house, the visitation, and the funeral. Before Gordon had a JD mower with a blade, Larry was one of the neighbors who would come over and plough out the drive. A couple of times ,we would come home from vacaation , and find our lawn mowed....by Larry. Last summer, I was working in the garden , and as he and Stormie often did, tooled over in his golf cart. He said."Get on." I was treated to a guided tour of their "park" we all admired do much. He had a big heart. We will miss this neighborhood. | | |
